Episode 4 "Public Perception of Copyright"
So after seeing the material on QuestionCopyright.org, I was inspired to go out and ask people about copyright. The first part of the show contains the interviews I did, asking people who I encoutered at the public gatherings I find myself in, which happened to be a Saturday workshop for the Waikato Linux Users Group, and Barcamp Auckland 3, an unconference where a lot of people interested in Internet technologies congregate. So it's not exactly the general public's perception of copyright, that I gathered, but it was a small slice of tech savy New Zealanders I interviewed about copyright.
Asking the four basic questions Karl Fogel had asked in the video he produced.
What is copyright?
What does copyright protect you from?
How long has copyright existed?
How do you feel about file sharing?
Contrary to Karl's experinece, I did find one or two people who had a good deal of knowledge on the subject, but I have a sneaking suspision, they might have learned what they know, at least partly from Karl's research. These were some pretty bright people I interviewed.
Still it was fun to see how similar the answers were too what Karl had received, and I put the audio from the video, which you can find here, at the end of the show so that I could listen to them side by side.
Lastly I mention the Creative Freedom Foundation at the end, because I've already recorded an Interview with the director Bronwyn Holloway-Smith, which I'll be uploading here soon. I played a song by Elbow Vs. Knee, her musical project, which I discovered only a few hours before the interview.
